The initial stages of a project that involved analyzing the site's current state and conducting climate and surrounding analyses. This approach helps to understand the complexity and contradictions of the city’s urban form, which is a result of a long process of formation that involved constructive and destructive historical events.
The perception of Los Angeles is described as a city that is dispersed, but at the same time, it nurtures the natural environment and has an open minded cultural ambiance. This perception served as a source of inspiration for the project’s design.
The design of the building draws inspiration from Mies Van de Rohe, an architect famous for his modernist designs. The building has a sleek and subtle appearance with a bold glass facade, which adds to its striking visual appeal. Despite its impressive appearance, the building is an eight story timber structure with I flanges on all four sides to provide support during seismic events.
Overall, the importance of understanding the site and its surrounding environment in the initial stages of a project. It also emphasizes the significance of inspiration and how it can be used to create a stunning yet practical design that fits the city’s perception and provides necessary support in seismic conditions.
